Which Coffee Format machine to choose
Start with the number of coffees you serve in a day, then check whether you can plumb the machine in. The rest, meaning the screen, the milk system and instant modules, follows from how the venue is meant to run.

How to read the model names
The key part is W, a number and the letter L, meaning the water tank capacity in litres. BREAK S W2L has a 2 l tank, FIT W4L has 4 l, GROW MP W6LM has 6 l and DUKE W8L has 8 l. Models without that marking, such as GROW M or DOUBLE, are plumbed straight into the mains or use the tank given in their specification.
If you cannot bring water to the station, choose a version with a larger tank. At 100 coffees a day a 2 l tank means refilling several times a day.
Cleaning chemicals
Three things have to be done regularly, and each has its own product.
Descaling. Descaler+ and Descaler Format PRO with Color Indicator in 1 l bottles, plus descaling tablets 6 × 16 g. The colour indicator shows when the solution has stopped working.
Group cleaning. Cleaning TABS+ tablets in 2 g, 2.5 g and 3.2 g, plus Daily Tab Format 2.0 PRO. Pick the tablet weight from the machine maker guidance, not by eye.
Milk system. Milk Format Blue Pro Acid and Milk Format Yellow PRO in 1 l bottles, plus a 500 ml fluid. Milk dries on faster than anything else, so this is a daily job, not a periodic one.
For grinders there is also a 2 × 15 g cleaning granulate that removes rancid oil from the grinding chamber. It is all in the machine cleaning category.
CF series water filters
The CF-01, CF-02, CF-04, CF-05 and CF-07 cartridges fit Coffee Format machines. A filter costs less than descaling and far less than a boiler repair, so in hard water it is worth using from day one. Every version is in the water filters category.
Barista accessories
Beyond the machines, Coffee Format also supplies the station: the CT-01 wooden tamper, the CL-01 distributor for a 58 mm basket, TM-01 and TM-02 tamping mats, CS-01 and CS-02 scales, and the KB-02 knock box drawer and GB-02 group brush.
Frequently asked questions
How many coffees a day will a given model take?
The outputs in the table are the manufacturer figures for continuous duty. If your traffic is concentrated in two hours, look at the hourly figure rather than the daily one.
Does the machine have to be plumbed in?
Not always. Models marked W have their own tank. At higher turnover a fixed connection is more convenient and reduces the risk of the machine stopping during the rush.
What is the difference between GROW M and GROW MP W6LM?
Both have two 700 g grinders and two boilers. The MP W6LM adds a milk pump and a 6 l water tank, so it does not need a mains connection.
