India Monsooned Malabar whole bean coffee: a coffee with history and low acidity
India Monsooned Malabar is a coffee with an unusual pedigree. Its story goes back to the days when coffee was shipped from India to Europe on wooden sailing ships. During the months-long voyage the beans were exposed to moisture, which changed their structure and flavour. Today this process, called monsooning, is recreated under controlled conditions to achieve a distinctive flavour and aroma profile.
Where does Monsooned Malabar come from?
The beans come from the Karnataka region of India, where the plantations lie at 1,000-1,600 m a.s.l. A tropical climate, mineral-rich soil and a unique processing technique give India Monsooned Malabar its one-of-a-kind character.

Malabar: a name that reflects origin and tradition
The name Monsooned Malabar comes from the picturesque south-west coast of India, which includes the humid areas of the Western Ghats. This is where the monsooning process was born. It began as a side effect of long sea voyages to Europe, when the beans were exposed to moisture and sea wind, which changed their colour, structure and flavour. Today the process is recreated on purpose to give the beans their characteristic flavour profile.
The monsooning process
The harvested coffee beans are exposed to moisture and wind during a monsooning process that lasts up to 16 weeks. The result is a coffee with golden beans, low acidity and an intense flavour that suits a wide range of brew methods.
