The Linea PB X is a version of the classic Linea PB in which each group has its own saturated boiler and its own brew temperature setting. On this two-group machine you can keep a milk blend on one group and a single origin for black coffee on the other, without having to find a compromise between them. It is built for a specialty café that serves two different coffees all day and does not want to keep switching between them.

Linea PB X vs Linea PB: what is the difference
The Linea PB has one shared 3.4 litre brew boiler that feeds both groups, so the whole machine works at a single brew temperature. The Linea PB X has two independent 1.3 litre saturated boilers, one per group, and each has its own temperature setting.
In practice this means that on the PB X you can set a lower temperature for a light-roast Ethiopian coffee and a higher one for a darker latte blend, and both come out the way you want. On the PB X, changing the temperature on one group does not affect the other. The body, dimensions, weight and steam boiler are identical in both models: you feel the difference in daily work, not in size.
The same logic applies to the GB5 family: the GB5 S has a shared boiler, the GB5 X has a boiler per group.
What kind of venue is the two-group Linea PB X for
Two groups and a 7 litre steam boiler suit a venue where one person works the machine and a second one joins on milk at peak times. The practical ranges below will help you choose the number of groups.
| Configuration | Coffees per day | When it makes sense |
|---|---|---|
| 1 group | up to 80 coffees | One barista, coffee as a side offer. Bakery, office, small outlet. |
| 2 groups | 80 to 250 coffees | One barista full time, a second at peak. A typical specialty café. |
| 3 groups | 250 to 450 coffees | Two baristas working side by side for most of the day. |
| 4 groups | over 450 coffees | Three baristas. Railway station, shopping centre, chain, large hotel. |
This is our guidance from experience, not manufacturer data. La Marzocco does not publish capacity in cups, and no such figure you see in shops comes from a data sheet. Treat the numbers as a starting point for a conversation, because the choice depends on the peak, not the daily total: thirty milk drinks in half an hour put more load on the machine than three hundred coffees spread evenly from the morning onwards.
If a queue regularly builds up at peak times, two baristas work at the same time for several hours a day and milk drinks make up a large share of sales, three groups are the right choice. The third group gives you not only throughput but also room at the machine for a second person.
AV, MP, ABR and HL: what the letters in the name mean
The abbreviations in La Marzocco machine names describe how the extraction is ended and what equipment is fitted.
| Code | What it means |
|---|---|
| AV | Auto-volumetric. The barista starts the extraction and the machine stops it after a programmed volume of water, measured by a flow meter. |
| EE | Semi-automatic. The barista starts and stops the extraction manually, with no volumetric dosing. |
| MP | Mechanical paddle. Manual control of pre-infusion and flow with a conical paddle. |
| ABR | Auto Brew Ratio. Scales under each group, accurate to 0.1 g, stop the extraction at a target beverage weight or brew ratio. The Drip Prediction function compensates for the drops that fall after the valve closes. |
| HL | High Legs. They make room for taller takeaway cups. They are required when ordering ABR. |
This machine is the AV version. Auto Brew Ratio and High Legs are available as factory options; you will find their prices in the table at the bottom of the page.
What to prepare at your venue before installation
This is the part nobody writes about, yet it decides when you can start serving. The Linea PB X needs a permanent water supply and a drain, so plan the spot at the counter together with your plumber, not after the machine has been delivered.
The power supply depends on the version: the manufacturer offers 200 V single-phase, 220 V single- or three-phase and 380 V three-phase. The three-phase version has to be specified when ordering, because in a venue without a three-phase supply it means a separate electrical installation.
In machines of this class, the most common cause of expensive repairs is water, not wear and tear. Scale building up in the saturated boiler and the heat exchanger is a cost that comes back every few months, which is why every manufacturer requires water treatment and makes the warranty conditional on it. We match the filtration to the water hardness at your venue, and our shop has a ready-made set with a BRITA C150 filter, filter head and flow meter.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth paying extra for the PB X instead of the PB?
Yes, if you serve two different espressos side by side or plan to. If you work with one blend all day, the PB is enough and leaves you money for a grinder.
Can Auto Brew Ratio be added later?
No. ABR is a factory configuration with scales built in under the groups, chosen when you order the machine.
Are two groups enough for 200 coffees a day?
Usually yes, if they are spread across the day. The problem is not the total but the peak: with thirty milk drinks in half an hour, the bottleneck is the barista and the space at the machine, not the machine itself.
Which grinder suits the Linea PB X?
For a two-group machine in a specialty café, the standard is a grinder with 65 mm or larger burrs and on-demand dosing. We are happy to match a specific model to your coffee and volume.
Delivery and custom configuration
Standard version: ships within 2-5 working days. Machines in the catalogue configuration ship from our warehouse, with no wait for production.
Version with options: 7-9 weeks from order confirmation. Any item from the table below, even just the body colour, means the machine is built to order at the factory in Italy. This kind of configuration cannot be sped up or changed once the order is placed, so it is worth deciding on it before you buy.
Below are the factory options available for the Linea PB X 2 groups, based on the La Marzocco 2026 price list. Prices are net, in euros, ex works, excluding transport, installation and commissioning. VAT is added to the order.
