PuqPress M2 Automatic Tamper

PuqPress M2 is an integrated automatic tamper that mounts as a base under Victoria Arduino Mythos, Mythos II and Nuova Simonelli Mythos grinders, designed for venues using more than 10 kg of coffee a week. It replaces hand tamping with a repeatable pressure of 5 to 30 kg and offers five working profiles. The grinder shown in the photos is not included.

Does the PuqPress M2 fit my Mythos grinder?

The PuqPress M2 is designed as a base for older generations of Mythos grinders. The manufacturer’s manual lists the Mythos 1, Mythos 1 Clima Pro and Mythos 1 Clima Basic. The tamper is also intended for Victoria Arduino Mythos II and Nuova Simonelli Mythos grinders.

The M2 is not the model for the newer MY75, MYG75, MY85 and MYG85 grinders. Those need the PuqPress M6. This is the key difference when comparing PuqPress M2 vs M6: both are integrated tampers, but they have a different base design and work with different grinder generations.

58 or 58.3 mm tamper base: matching your espresso machine

The tamper base diameter is chosen to match the filter basket and espresso machine, not the Mythos grinder. The same grinder can work alongside machines from different manufacturers, so the grinder model alone is not enough to choose the right tamper.

• 58 mm: Victoria Arduino, Nuova Simonelli, Faema, Cimbali, Rancilio, Astoria, Bezzera, ECM and Wega.
• 58.3 mm: La Marzocco, Synesso, Kees van der Westen, Carimali and VST baskets.

If your portafilter has a VST basket, choose the 58.3 mm base regardless of the grinder brand. We sell the M2 with a 58 mm or 58.3 mm base, and the manufacturer also offers interchangeable 53, 54.3 and 57.3 mm bases. Swapping the base yourself takes about 30 seconds.

Five tamping profiles and 5-30 kg pressure

Pressure is adjustable from 5-30 kg in 1 kg steps using the Adjustment Wheel. This lets you match the force to your espresso recipe, dose and basket type.

• P0 Speedy: a quick tamp lasting 1.5 seconds.
• P1 Precision: a profile with slower retraction of the base.
• P2 Soft: slower retraction and pressure limited to 5-15 kg.
• P3 Hulk: tamps the coffee three times.
• P4 Single: a single-tamp profile.

The automatic espresso tamper runs the selected programme once the portafilter is placed on the adjustable fork. It works with bottomless portafilters and with single and double spout portafilters.

PuqPress M2 for more than 10 kg of coffee a week

A capacity of over 10 kg of coffee a week makes the M2 suitable for busy coffee bars. Every dose is tamped with the set force, with no variation caused by technique or fatigue of individual baristas.

The manufacturer gives a 2-year warranty with no limit on the number of tamps. Warranty cover does not end when a counter reaches a certain number, which matters in venues making a large number of espressos every day.

Dimensions, power and features

The unit measures 38 x 18.5 x 17 cm and weighs 6.3 kg. It is the heaviest model in the integrated M series, and its construction forms a stable base for a compatible grinder. The 100-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz power supply allows it to work with different mains standards, and power consumption is 76 W at 0.7 A.

The base has a non-stick coating that reduces ground coffee build-up. The height-adjustable fork makes it easy to position the portafilter, and a separate cleaning mode gives safe access to the base.

The PuqPress M2 is available in matte black and white, in 58 mm and 58.3 mm versions. The M2 has no Mirror Tray and no physical Profile Switch; these features are only available on the freestanding PuqPress Pro.
