The Chemex makes about 450 ml of coffee, roughly 3 cups. You need paper filters and freshly ground coffee, ideally light roast Arabica. You will find our filter coffees here.

Thick Chemex filters hold back sediment and some of the coffee oils, so the brew is clean, clear and delicate.

Chemex: timeless design since 1941

In 1941 the German-born American chemist and inventor Peter Schlumbohm created a brewer he called the Chemex Coffee Maker. Its distinctive shape of two joined cones has stayed practically unchanged to this day.

The Chemex is an example of timeless design: it is in the collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York, among others, and the Illinois Institute of Technology named it one of the 100 best-designed products of modern times.

Glass, wood and function

The Chemex is made of high-quality glass, which does not absorb smells or flavours. That makes it just as good for brewing as for serving the coffee afterwards.

The distinctive wooden handle makes it easy to carry safely. Remove it before putting the Chemex in the dishwasher.

Chemex as brewer and carafe

One of the biggest advantages of the Chemex is its versatility. Besides brewing, it can serve as a carafe or server, so coffee can be brewed and served in the same vessel.
