PuqPress M3 GEN5 Automatic Tamper

PuqPress M3 GEN5 is an automatic tamper that fits as an integrated grinder base, designed for cafés and food service venues. The model fits Mahlkönig E65S and E65S GbW grinders and replaces their standard base. This automates tamping without taking up extra counter space.

The PuqPress M3 is designed specifically for two grinder models: Mahlkönig E65S and E65S GbW. It is not a universal base for any grinder. Its design and dimensions are matched to these two units.

This automatic tamper for the Mahlkönig E65S fits in place of the grinder’s original base. There is no need to cut holes in the counter or set up a separate tamping station. Grinder and tamper form one working unit, which shortens the path of the portafilter from dosing to tamping.

The grinder is not included.

Adjustable pressure and five tamping profiles

Pressure can be set from 5 to 30 kg in 1 kg steps. Adjustment is done with the Adjustment Wheel, so you can change the setting without going through a complex menu.

There are five tamping profiles:

• Speedy: a fast cycle lasting 1.3 seconds,
• Precision: a profile focused on consistency, lasting 2.1 seconds,
• Soft: a gentler cycle lasting 2.5 seconds,
• Hulk: two tamps at the set force plus an extra polishing movement, 2.5 seconds in total,
• Single: a profile for a single tamp.

A fixed pressure removes differences caused by the strength and technique of individual baristas. This matters most during busy service, when hours of manual tamping become tiring and it is harder to prepare every shot under identical conditions.

How to match the tamper base diameter to your basket

On this page the PuqPress M3 GEN5 is available in 58 mm and 58.3 mm variants. Choose the diameter to match the baskets you use, not just the portafilter size marking. A 58.3 mm base fills the inside of many precision 58 mm baskets more closely, while the 58 mm variant leaves slightly more clearance.

The unit also supports 53 mm, 54.3 mm and 57.3 mm bases. You can change the base yourself in about 30 seconds, so switching standards does not mean sending the tamper to a service centre.

The unit works with bottomless (naked) portafilters as well as single-spout and double-spout portafilters. Before ordering, check both your basket diameter and the design of your portafilter.

Installation without extra counter space

The integrated design solves the problem of finding room for a separate automatic tamper. The PuqPress M3 sits directly under the grinder, so the station stays compact and the barista can dose and tamp in one working area.

The base is designed around the geometry of the E65S and E65S GbW grinders and the space needed to handle the portafilter. The PuqPress M3 itself is 14.7 cm high, so if the grinder will sit under a shelf or cabinet, check the available height of the whole setup first.

The model comes in matt black and matt white. This description applies to both colour versions and both base diameters on offer.

PuqPress M3 GEN5: dimensions, power and warranty

The unit measures 28.3 x 19.4 x 14.7 cm and weighs 4.6 kg. A 110-240 VAC, 50-60 Hz power supply lets it run on different electrical installations. Power is 76 W and current is 0.7 A.

The PuqPress M3 GEN5 is designed for stations using more than 10 kg of coffee a week. The manufacturer gives a 2-year warranty with no limit on the number of tamps, which sets this model apart from units covered by both a time limit and a cycle counter.

The M3 has no Mirror Tray or Profile Switch. These are available only on the Pro model. The standard version keeps pressure adjustment, five tamping profiles and quick base changes.
