The Mahlkönig E65S is an electric espresso grinder with 65 mm flat burrs and time-based dosing. It is intended for cafés, restaurants and food service outlets that need quick setting changes and up to 6 saved recipes. Output of 4-7 g/s keeps doses coming, and a body just 19.5 cm wide takes up relatively little room on the bar.

Mahlkönig E65S: 65 mm burrs and 4-7 g/s output
The grinder uses 65 mm flat burrs made of special steel. The manufacturer puts their approximate life at around 800 kg of coffee. When they actually need replacing depends on the beans, how the grinder is used and how well it is cleaned.
The motor runs at 1,400 rpm at 50 Hz. Grinding output is 4 to 7 g/s, so an 18 g dose takes roughly 2.6-4.5 seconds. The exact time depends on grind size, the coffee and burr wear, among other things.
The E65S is rated at 440 W and designed for a 220-240 V supply. It is the smallest and most affordable espresso grinder in the Mahlkönig E65/E80 family. The larger E80S uses 80 mm burrs and is intended for stations that need more output.
Stepless adjustment and Disc Distance Detection
Grind size can be adjusted with one hand across a range of 180-580 microns. The mechanism is stepless, while an 80-step scale serves as a reference for saving and returning to settings. A separate lock reduces the risk of the adjuster moving by accident during service.
The Disc Distance Detection system relates the setting to the actual distance between the burrs. This gives the barista clearer information than an arbitrary number on the dial and makes it easier to return to a previous setting after changing coffee or cleaning the grinder.
Mahlkönig E65S: time-based dosing, no built-in scale
The letter S stands for time-based dosing. The grinder stores up to 6 recipes in which the dose is defined by grinding time. It is operated through an icon menu and a push-turn button for navigating settings and confirming changes.
The E65S does not weigh each dose. After changing coffee, grind size or burr setting, check the dose on a separate scale and adjust the time if needed. Day to day this means a simple, fast dosing system, but dose weight needs checking from time to time.
A PuqPress M3 GEN5 automatic tamper can be fitted under the grinder, forming a single station with the E65S and taking up no extra space next to it.
E65S vs E65W GbS: how do the versions differ?
The main difference is how the coffee is measured. The E65S grinds for a programmed time, while the E65W GbS uses weight-based dosing and Grind by Sync technology. The earlier E65S GbW (Grind by Weight) has been discontinued.
- E65S: time-based dosing, no built-in scale, up to 6 recipes.
- E65W GbS: weight-based dosing and Grind by Sync features.
- E65S GbW: earlier weight-based version, now discontinued.
If a venue checks doses on a separate scale and wants a lower purchase price, the E65S offers the key features of this family without paying for built-in weighing.
Dimensions, hopper and noise level
The Mahlkönig E65S is 19.5 cm wide, 28.3 cm deep and 58.3 cm high. Before buying, check above all the clearance under the cabinet or shelf above the bar. Net weight is 11.2 kg.
The standard hopper holds around 1.2 kg of beans. Optional hoppers of around 0.25 kg and 1.8 kg are also available, so you can match the height and bean supply to the way the station is set up.
The stated noise level is 80 dB(A). The E65S is not a silent machine, and it should not be judged only by the often-used description “quiet café grinder”. The manufacturer does not publish a retention figure either, so there is no basis for attributing a specific amount of coffee left in the grinding chamber to this model.
The grinder is made in Germany by Mahlkönig, a brand of Hemro Group. At Colbergcoffee it is available in matte black and white at 9,349 zł gross.
