Mahlkönig EK43 is a professional all-purpose coffee grinder used in roasteries, cupping labs and high-volume bars. It handles batch brew, pour-over, espresso and Turkish coffee. Its main strength is an output of 19-21 g/s, the highest in the entire Mahlkönig range.

Mahlkönig EK43: 98 mm burrs and 19-21 g/s output
At the heart of the grinder are 98 mm flat burrs made of hardened premium cast steel. The manufacturer puts their approximate life at around 6,000 kg of coffee. When they actually need replacing depends on the beans, grind settings, foreign objects and how the grinder is used.
The 1,300 W motor spins the burrs at 1,450 rpm at 50 Hz. Output of 19-21 g/s means a large batch brew dose or a whole bag of coffee is ground quickly. At a very fine Turkish grind the rate drops to 10-12 g/s, which is still a high figure.
The EK43 has stepless mechanical adjustment. It has no screen, no control electronics and no built-in scale. Setting the grind and measuring the dose are up to the operator, but the mechanism itself is simple and easy to read in daily use.
For roasteries, cupping, batch brew and espresso
As a roastery grinder, the EK43 works well for preparing samples, grinding coffee for customers and handling larger quantities. The bean hopper holds around 1.2 kg, so it does not need refilling after every bag. In a lab it can cover cupping and different brew methods from a single station.
For batch brew, high output cuts the time needed to prepare large doses. The grinder can also grind fine enough for espresso, but it does not work like a typical on-demand espresso grinder. It does not dose by time or weight, so when grinding straight into the portafilter every dose has to be weighed beforehand or checked afterwards. It is a natural choice for a busy filter bar, while on a main espresso station it needs a deliberately planned workflow.
There is no integrated PuqPress tamper that mounts under the EK43. On a separate station you can use a freestanding PuqPress Q GEN6 or PuqPress Pro.
EK43, EK43 S or EK Omnia?
Models in the EK family use 98 mm burrs but differ in features, dimensions and purpose:
- EK43 vs EK43 S: the grinding mechanism and burrs are the same. The EK43 is 82.8 cm high with a standard 1.2 kg hopper, while the EK43 S is 68 cm high with a hopper of around 0.25 kg. The “S” stands for “short”. The shorter model is newer and fits under a bar shelf more easily.
- EK43 vs EK Omnia: the Omnia has a 750 W BLDC motor with 500-1,500 rpm speed control, a touchscreen, electronic adjustment and Library Mode with 10 recipes. Its output is 11.5-13.5 g/s, while the EK43 reaches 19-21 g/s. The Omnia is better at precisely recalling settings and frequent coffee changes, while the EK43 is about simplicity and throughput.
If space under a shelf is the priority, choose the EK43 S. If you often switch between many recipes and want to save settings, look at the EK Omnia. The classic EK43 remains the most powerful option where grinding speed, a large hopper and mechanical operation matter most.
Height, weight and noise: check before you install
A height of 82.8 cm is a real installation constraint. The grinder will not fit under every wall shelf, so measure the station before buying, including the space needed to fill the hopper. The base is 23 cm wide and 41 cm deep.
The manufacturer gives a net weight of 26 kg for the EK43. Listings in Polish shops often quote 24 or 24.5 kg, but that does not apply to this model: 24.5 kg is the weight of the shorter EK43 S. The weight adds stability but makes the grinder hard to move often and calls for a solid counter.
Noise level is 60 dB(A) at idle and 87 dB(A) while grinding. That is a high figure worth taking into account when planning the station, especially in an open bar or a lab connected to a customer area.
Mahlkönig EK43: price and key specifications
The Mahlkönig EK43 is 15,899 zł gross. The grinder is available in matte black and white. It is made in Germany by Mahlkönig, a brand of Hemro Group.
- Burrs: flat, 98 mm, hardened premium cast steel
- Burr life: around 6,000 kg of coffee
- Speed: 1,450 rpm at 50 Hz
- Output: 19-21 g/s, 10-12 g/s at a Turkish grind
- Adjustment: stepless, mechanical
- Dosing: manual, no scale
- Bean hopper: around 1.2 kg
- Power: 1,300 W
- Power supply: 200-240 V, 50/60 Hz
- Dimensions: 23 x 41 x 82.8 cm
- Net weight: 26 kg
- Noise: 60 dB(A) at idle, 87 dB(A) while grinding
The mechanical design makes it easier to assess the condition of the working parts and does not make basic adjustment dependent on a display. When buying a machine meant to last for years, it is worth considering not just the price but also access to service, wearing parts and proper burr replacement in Poland.
