Mahlkönig EK Omnia is a professional all-purpose grinder for espresso and filter, designed for roasteries, cupping labs and specialty bars working with several coffees. It combines 98 mm burrs with speed control, electronic burr gap adjustment and a touchscreen. Library Mode stores up to 10 recipes and moves the burrs automatically when you select a coffee, cutting the time needed to recalibrate.

Mahlkönig EK Omnia: a 98 mm grinder for espresso and filter
The EK Omnia uses 98 mm flat burrs made in Germany from cast steel. Their expected life is around 6,000 kg of coffee. The grinder delivers 11.5-13.5 g/s, so a weighed dose for cupping, espresso or pour-over is ground in a few seconds.
The 750 W brushless BLDC motor allows speed control from 500 to 1,500 rpm. The barista can save the speed as part of a recipe and match it to a specific coffee and brew method. The full adjustment range means one grinder can cover espresso as well as V60, AeroPress, batch brew and other filter methods.
The burr gap is adjusted electronically and steplessly across a range of 0-800 microns. The Disc Distance Detection system shows the actual burr setting, so a recipe does not depend only on an arbitrary dial position.
Library Mode and three ways to adjust the grind
The GSA system offers three ways to adjust the grind:
- Classic: setting grind size with a traditional dial,
- Touch: changing the setting on the front LCD touchscreen,
- Automatic: the burrs move automatically when you select a saved recipe in Library Mode.
Library Mode stores up to 10 recipes. You can assign a burr setting and speed to specific coffees, then recall the whole set of parameters from the screen. In a bar with several coffees on filter, that means fewer manual corrections every time a bag changes. In a roastery, it makes settings easy to repeat for cupping, quality control and sample preparation.
The EK Omnia has no built-in scale. The dose has to be weighed separately, while the grinder supports time-based dosing and working from saved recipes.
EK Omnia vs EK43: how do these grinders differ?
Both models have 98 mm flat burrs with a life of around 6,000 kg of coffee, but they are designed for different ways of working. The EK43 reaches 19-21 g/s, the EK Omnia 11.5-13.5 g/s. The Omnia is clearly slower: its priority is control of settings and quick switching between saved recipes, not maximum throughput.
- Drive: the EK43 has a 1,300 W fixed-speed motor, the EK Omnia a 750 W BLDC motor with 500-1,500 rpm speed control.
- Adjustment: the EK43 uses mechanical adjustment, the Omnia electronic adjustment with Disc Distance Detection.
- Operation: the EK43 has no electronics or screen, the Omnia has a touchscreen and Library Mode.
- Hopper: the EK43 holds around 1.2 kg of beans, the EK Omnia around 0.25 kg.
- Height: the EK43 is 82.8 cm, the EK Omnia 66.3 cm.
The 250 g hopper points to single-dose work. In practice the barista weighs out a dose of a particular coffee, pours it into the grinder, grinds to the saved recipe and moves on to the next coffee. This suits a bar rotating several coffees through the day, but it does not replace the large EK43 hopper for continuous grinding of one product in large quantities.
Who is this all-purpose grinder for?
The Mahlkönig EK Omnia is intended mainly for roasteries, cupping labs and specialty cafés that regularly change coffees and brew methods. Saving 10 recipes shortens the path from choosing a coffee to the right grinder setting. The grinder also suits espresso, provided the recipe is dialled in and doses are weighed separately.
The grinder is 21.4 cm wide, 39 cm deep and 66.3 cm high. It weighs 24 kg net, and the stated noise level is 74 dB(A). It runs on 200-240 V, 50 Hz.
Colours: matte black and matte white.
