A moka pot is a classic. Small, neat, and with no smug little display to argue with. It gives you a strong, aromatic brew and lets you make coffee the Italian way, with character. But to stop that character sliding into bitter and sour, you need the right beans.
At Colbergcoffee we have a few coffees that work brilliantly in a moka pot. Here is our own subjective ranking. Coffee for a moka pot? Only these four:
1. Strong Storm: the classic that never lets you down
There is a reason this is our bestseller. Strong Storm is a coffee with low acidity and a firmly chocolate and nut profile, and it gives a very pleasant, dense brew. It is as good in an espresso machine as it is in a moka pot. It handles milk well, and on its own it still shows the full range of flavour.
Made for anyone who likes a classic, intense style and a proper espresso with no odd surprises.
Why in a moka pot?
Because it does not go sour, it does not overload the cup, and it gives you pure pleasure even when the extraction runs strong.

2. Mexico El Jaguar: balanced sweetness
This coffee from the Siltepec region is for anyone who likes a brew that is smooth and pleasantly sweet, with notes of milk chocolate, caramel, molasses and a gentle nutty bitterness. In a moka pot it gives full body, and with the grind dialled in it can surprise you with its depth.
This is a coffee that does not need milk, but does not argue with it either.
Why in a moka pot?
Because a moka pot draws out the sweetness and the chocolate character, with no sour finish.

3. India Monsooned Malabar: low acidity, and something exotic
A coffee with a history. The monsooning process leaves the beans with unusually low acidity and a distinctive, faintly earthy taste with notes of cocoa, spices and roasted nuts. In a moka pot it gives a very deep, concentrated brew that will satisfy anyone who likes a harder hit.
Why in a moka pot?
Because a moka pot likes character, and this coffee has more of it than most morning emails from the boss.

4. Good Morning: something lighter, but with energy in it
Not everyone is after coffee the way an Italian bar makes it. Good Morning is a lighter blend with a gentle citrus aroma and notes of nuts. It works well in a moka pot if you want to start the day with something brighter and livelier that still has substance to it.
Why in a moka pot?
Because it gives you energy and freshness, without the “that coffee just hit me in the face” effect.

5. Peru Chanchamayo: an intense, chocolatey classic from the mountains
If you are a fan of bold, intense coffees, this Peruvian blend will be spot on. A darker roast, low acidity, notes of dark chocolate and roasted almonds: this is a coffee that finds its feet in a moka pot. It gives full, deep body that stays on the palate for a long time and in the memory for longer.
Why in a moka pot?
Because it gives you a brew that tastes the way coffee should taste: clean, dense, with nothing fancy about it, and with a huge amount of character.
