If you are hunting for a cat cafe in Kołobrzeg, we have to disappoint you: the town does not have one yet. Do not let that spoil the trip, though. Kołobrzeg, on the Polish Baltic coast, has plenty of cafes with real character, good coffee and an atmosphere worth sitting in. One of them is Colbergcoffee on the old town, where you will find freshly roasted beans, good coffee and, we would argue, the best espresso in town.
What is a cat cafe, and why has it caught on?
A cat cafe is somewhere you drink coffee, eat something sweet and spend an hour in the company of actual cats. They wander between the tables, play, sleep on the shelves and sometimes come over to be stroked. The idea started in Asia, with the first places opening in Thailand and Japan, and spread across Europe from there. In Poland you will find cat cafes in Warsaw, Kraków, Wrocław and Gdańsk, and they keep getting more popular.
One thing worth knowing: more and more cat cafes set a minimum age, often 13 and over. It is about the comfort and safety of the cats, who do not cope well with noise and constant movement. The upshot is a calmer room, and cats that are more relaxed in it.
The next best thing: parrots and coffee at Jungla Cafe
Kołobrzeg has no cat cafe yet, but we do have something just as interesting. Drive 15 minutes to Dźwirzyno and you will find Jungla Cafe. It is an unusual place: alongside the coffee, which is our freshly roasted Colbergcoffee, you get live parrots for company. A good spot for breakfast, for something sweet, or for a family trip out.

If your heart is set on a cat cafe, you will have to wait a while longer. In the meantime there are other places worth finding. Call in at Colbergcoffee on the Kołobrzeg old town, or drive out to Jungla Cafe in Dźwirzyno. Either way you will leave happy.
