In high season the seaside towns are full of places to eat and drink, and not every one of them stays in the memory. Słodki Domek is one of those cafés you visit once and then come back to every year. It sits in the middle of the park on the west beach in Kołobrzeg, and it serves not only ice cream and waffles but one of the best coffees in the region. We went to find out what is behind it.
From a family’s experience to a café of their own. How Słodki Domek started
The idea for Słodki Domek came, as these things often do, from someone close to home. The owner, Tomasz Trojanowski, says it was his daughter, working in one of the local ice cream parlours, who first made him curious about the business.
“I saw what working in an ice cream parlour looks like from the inside. In time the chance came up to open a café in a beautiful old park right by the west beach in Kołobrzeg. I could not let it go,” says Trojanowski.
And so a place was born that now has hundreds of visitors through it every day. It is not simply a classic ice cream parlour, it is a venue with a character of its own, holding the classic and the local together.
A name that was no accident, and an atmosphere that is hard to copy
The name Słodki Domek, the sweet little house, was not chosen at random. It had to be simple and friendly and at the same time carry the thing that matters most, which is the feel of the place. A little house in the middle of a park, full of the smell of ice cream, waffles and freshly ground coffee. Sounds like a dream? Visitors put it plainly: this place has a soul.
“I wanted the name to suggest something delicious and enjoyable. Putting a café and an ice cream parlour together in a spot like this was asking for something simple that still sticks in the mind,” says the owner.
Coffee from Kołobrzeg. Why is it the thing guests ask about?
One of the things that sets Słodki Domek apart is a real liking for local produce: fruit from their own orchard, ice cream, cakes, and coffee from a local roastery, which is our Kołobrzeg Coffee. We also supply the excellent ROA oat drink and the natural coffee syrups from Mount Caramel.
“Our guests have been taken with the taste of the coffee from the very beginning. They fell especially hard for the Captain’s Blend, and that is what we have stayed with. We are serving it for the third season now. It works beautifully with milk, and on its own the intensity still wins people over,” says Trojanowski.
The owner admits that customers increasingly ask where the coffee comes from, what it tastes like and what the story behind it is. “We are glad to tell them it is coffee from a local roastery, roasted here in Kołobrzeg. For a lot of people it matters that we back local producers,” he adds.
Not only coffee. Ice cream, waffles and the classic desserts on the menu
Coffee may be the pride of Słodki Domek, but the menu goes a good deal further. This is where you can try artisan ice cream in a range of flavours as well as Italian-style gelato, along with the more extravagant desserts: bubble waffles, waffles with the full set of toppings, ice cream sundaes and lemonades to cool you down.
“Our aim was to create somewhere that works for the whole family. Parents can have a good coffee, the children get ice cream, and there is something sweet for everyone,” says the owner.
Most of the ingredients come from local sources, which is also part of the Słodki Domek philosophy: a firm focus on quality and on fresh produce.

Guests can do more than drink the coffee on the spot, they can buy it to take home. The café stocks bagged coffee in 200 g packs as well as kilogram bags. It is a good idea for anyone who wants to bring back the taste of the holiday once they are home, or to hand someone a local present from Kołobrzeg.
“Bagged coffee is the gift of choice from Kołobrzeg. Guests come back, they ask, they want more. We are very pleased about that,” says Tomasz Trojanowski.
Słodki Domek: not only a name, but an experience
A walk through the park, a coffee in the shade of the trees, children working their way through ice cream and the soft sound of the waves behind it all. Sounds like a scene from an advert? In Kołobrzeg it is an ordinary day. Słodki Domek has become a fixed point on the holiday route for a lot of visitors.
So if you find yourself near the west beach in Kołobrzeg, it is worth stopping. For the atmosphere, for the flavour, but above all for how genuine it is. There really are not many places like it.
